What do we do in Cub Scouts?
Cub Scout Activities
Den Meetings:
Your son will meet weekly or bi-weekly with a group of other boys who are in his grade. This provides him a chance to make new friends and do new activities with a close group of friends.
Pack Meetings:
This is a meeting for all Cub Scouts and parents to get to gather to recognize their sons for the achievements they have accomplished during each month. Skits, songs and plays are just a few activities during a Pack meeting.
Pinewood Derby Races:
Pack competition where the Cub Scout makes a racing car for competition.
Day Camp:
A week long day camp at Coweta County Fair Grounds during the summer. Its action oriented; and involves games, crafts, skills, nature, archery and BB gun instruction.
Camping:
Weekend camping events for the Cub Scout and his mom, dad or guardian with siblings to experience camping as a Cub Scout for the first time. We participate in at least two Pack camping events every year and encourage each family and den to do it often as it helps prepare your son for Boy Scouts.
Scouting for Food:
A service project held in February where over 20,000 Scouts collect 530,000 pounds of food for area food shelves. This is the largest national service project for the Boy Scouts of America.
Scout Sunday:
A day where all the Scouts in the United States give respect to God. A special Scout service is given at Cokes Chapel UMC where the Scouts of all ages get together for a morning of prayer and thanksgiving.
How Much Time Will This All Take?
Cub Scout Time Commitment
Time with one’s son is the most important time we have. Cub Scouting is family centered and works well because parents get involved. Den meeting are the 1st and 3rd Tuesday evening of the month and Pack meetings are the last Tuesday evening of the month. We have meetings every Tuesday, unless otherwise noted.
Tiger Cubs:
1st grade boys will need a parent on all activities. The meetings involves both the Tiger Cub and his adult partner. These are lead by one or more of the adults that are the main Den Leader and Assistants.
Wolves, Bears & Webelos:
2nd - 5th grades, attend meetings that are conducted by a Den Leader and an assistant. Parents are encouraged to attend the Den meeting and can volunteer to assist where they can.
Parents and siblings do attend all Pack meetings, that take place once a month.
The Den meeting time and time at home is used to help your son advance through the rank on which he is currently working.
Your additional time can be used by the Pack if you choose to volunteer as a Den Leader, or a member of the Pack Committee or as an assistant to one of the current leaders.
The pack has a few short-term projects for which they need volunteers. A few are: Pinewood Derby Chair, Blue & Gold Banquet Chair, Popcorn Kernel, Fundraising Chair, Friends of Scouting Chair, and Day Camp Chair. These are just a few of the important jobs that make the Pack you are looking for so successful.
A position as an adult volunteer can be one of the most rewarding experiences you can have. It provides you that outside opportunity to see your son change before your eyes.
The Cub Scout Uniform & Handbook
The Cub Scout wears the official Cub Scout Blue uniform. This includes shirt, pants, Cub Scout Cap, neckerchief with slide, and belt based on grade of school and all necessary patches. We recommend purchasing the shirt large so as your scout grows he can wear it for the next three years. In our Pack per our bylaws, the Scout is welcome to wear blue jeans, navy blue shorts, or other navy blue pants with his uniform shirt instead of the scout pants. During the next few years the scout will only need to purchase a new cap, neckerchief, slide and handbook. The Cub Scout Handbook on average cost ~$10
The uniform and book are available at the Scout Shop in Griffin GA:
