So how much does scouting cost a year?
Our Pack does its best to keep costs at minimum and affordable.
Scouting does charge fees for membership, events and trips. Council and unit fundraising will help with those costs, and will give a Scout the chance to earn the money he needs to participate in summer camp or other programs. While there are costs to be able to buy supplies, register, and put on events, Pack 2293 does not believe that finances should prevent ANY boy from being able to experience all Scouting has to offer. If costs for registration, uniform, or other needed supplies are an issue, please contact the cubmaster and arrangements can be made to offset costs. In addition, fund raising opportunities are provided to help offset the costs of summer camp, awards, and other activities.
There is a $170 per scout registration fee per year that covers national registration, Pack dues, and Den dues. In an effort to help reduce that fee we sell popcorn in the fall. If your scout has $155 in popcorn sales we reduce the fees from $170 to $110. Other fund raisers are offered at times to offset camping trips, day camp, and Webelos resident camp. Dens may also have a small monthly or quarterly den fee to help with supplies for den meetings and activities.
Pack 2293 provides all badges, belt loops, and awards from these fees and popcorn sales so parents are never asked to pay for any achievements, medals, or other recognition their son earns.
The cost of the uniform is handled by the parents directly, but assistance, lightly used uniforms, and other options are available if the cost would make scouting prohibitive for any child. Money is a necessary reality to put on a quality program but should NEVER be a factor for preventing a child from being a part of all that scouting has to offer.
